The Grown Up Kids is a college band based out of Ohio. I work as their graphic designer to create merch, marketing materials, and album art. The band's music marries the blissful naivety of youth with the pain and heartbreak of growing up. To reflect that, I often combine bright pastels with a dark black. I also often utilize imagery to reflect this message. The font I use is hand-drawn, reminiscent of a messy childhood scrawl.
Take The Night Off is upbeat and jazzy, and the message is full of hope and mystery about what awaits you out in the night. The unfinished drawing of a boy dreaming ties in with the vivid paint, almost as if his daydreams are the cause of it.
The melting ice cream cone stickers represent the Grown Up Kids the best - our childhood is melting away just like brightly colored ice cream. Contact me if you want one ;)
I've created a poster for just about every gig the Grown Up Kids have had. Here are some of my favorites:
If the black and white photo didn't give it away... Pictures is about a breakup.
